India has unwittingly given huge trade advantage to China. We export goods worth $ 9 billion a year comprising mostly commodities like iron ore and import annually manufacturing goods worth $ 31 billion by putting cos like BHEL, Steel cos & L&T to huge disadvantage.

What a shame. We acquire willingly trade disadvantage without any political or economic benefit.

China has already scored advantage over a mighty nation like USA. If we do not put a stop to current account deficit with China we will only ensure a mighty China who will threaten us at each and every opportunity. Time for large track correction???

I think there is a serious, very serious, misunderstanding of what China does for export.

Most of the so called Chinese exports are from US Multinational corporations like Walmart, that design, specify, shop, order and export manufactured goods to the US per US taste for selling at low prices. There are no chinese salesman peddling his company produts in the USA. If he did, he would have no chance of penetrating in to order department.

Unfortunatley, except in some areas of IT field whee the customer knows hat he wants, very few MNC from the US bother to come to India for manufactured goods and it is a wastte to send salesman over there.

Tally,

Netod has given you his reply.

Me too feel the same.

Except for our cotton ethnic stuff nothing in India has quality except our IT

You see when i go shopping, i always pick CHINESE STUFF.. they are so clean, neat tidy and so practical. The next would be german stuff.. both of them are great for their design and quality. I dont know why folks consider chinese goods as cheap

If indians dont know how to do it like the chinese they might as well perish until they decide to learn

Life is not about banning or veto or about stifling competion. Its about quality.

Dear radhika nandlal & netdo, I welcome your response to my post on China.

I have kept track of various Chinese goods which have been flooding Indian market since 1990. I was posted in Bagdogra (near Siliguri) and saw cheap Chinese stuff flooding Indian market through Nepal. However I DO NOT WISH TO GET INTO ARGUMENT ABOUT THESE CONSUMER ITEMS WHICH HAVE VERY LITTLE SIGNIFICANCE. netdo is absolutely right in his assertain that most of the manufacturing goods are designed by multinational cos and some of them are of very high quality.

However, couple of years back when I changed my Esteem car tyres it cost me Rs 1950 each. Chinese tyres were available for Rs 1450 each. My JK brand has given me already a mileage of 25000kms & I am sure these tyres will last me for 65000-70000 km whereas Chinese brand last for much lesser time and if you drive at speeds above 100 kmph you are likely to compromise your safety. I can quote many such specific instances.

However my intention was to draw mostly on project imports and that is what I mentioned in my earlier post. Equipment for power projects and laying of gas pipe lines could have easily been undertaken by Cos like L&T or JP. I WILL CONTINUE THE POST AFTER SOME TIME. We must express our views on such an important issue.

Further to my earlier post.

I have first hand knowledge where large projects build with Chinese equipment have suffered and project have replaced the equipment from Indian manufactured.

Chinese have certain advantages in terms of being cheapest manufactured of goods. The interest rates are extremely low but most important is higher productivity of its labor. The work culture inculcated by the industry is exemplary. India will have to overcome some of these hurdles by the industry within and with the help of Govt.

I must also state that Indian industry normally goes for projects with very high profit margins compared with Chinese. This is a strength as well makes us non performers.

I have a strong feeling that Indian industry is trying to become competitive and very soon overcome hurdles to become high grade manufacturing hub center of the world. Young work force with adequate skills will ensure this in very near future.

I do not like Chinese goods at a personal level but notwithstanding my opposition is to large scale import of Chinese Capital goods without any advantage to our national interest. WE MUST ENSURE LEVEL FIELD WITH CHINESE AND TRADE BALANCE MUST BE ENSURED. We should also learn to use trade as an instrument of national policy. China India equation can not be allowed to be detrimental to our national interest as we have many areas of conflict and are natural adversaries.

I do not buy Chinese goods. BEST of Mumbai is buying large no of Chinese A/C buses King Longs. We as citizen are entitled to know the basis on which this decision was made? Tata & AshoK Leyland are making very good A/c bises for DTC Delhi. These buses run on CNG,are economical and trouble free.

I WISH WE ALL RAISE THESE ISSUES!!!

Dear rn, the issue raised by me is economic. Why politicize it??? The issue can be solved by by our own industry and common man/woman like you and me. We all have to be aware. At times Govt has limitations in terms of trade treaty or WTO trade rules. If you and me become aware of situation the country can move forward!!!
