If you have your salary slips given month after month ready, please, use them and find out what you were paid and what was the tax deducted.

Based on these, you can file your tax return. If help is needed, please write again.

Dear Mavi!

Visit the website of tin-nsdl . com.

Click on View Tax Credits.

You will be asked to register yourself with your PAN as also to select your own LogIn ID and password.

Depending on which is convenient to you, select the mode i.e. either ask the verifier to come to your house or you yourself go and sign the paper before the Tax Verifier in his office.

You are now able to take a print out of the registration slip. Take the registration slip, your original PAN card and a photocopy and visit the Verifier`s office.

Sign the paper in the space provided in the presence of their representative.

The facility of viewing your tax credits will be activated in 24 to 48 hours.

Now, after two days, log in with your selected LOG IN ID and Password on the website of tin-nsdl. You will be able to see credits against your name and PAN No. alongwith details of the deductor. This will be available for years 2006 2007 onwards.

This should be sufficient for your needs. Take a print out for your records, if you consider it needed.

I presume you completed all the formalities stated in my message dated 11th August. 2009.

If you have followed those steps, if any TDS has been deducted and deposited with Government of India, then, it will show up definitely in your name with the PAN registered.

If not, please check with your employer whether he has deducted any TDS at all. (I presume he has not deducted.).

Now, if your total income during a year is more than 1,50,000 then only you have to file a return. If it is under Rs. 1,50,000 do not worry. Forget it.

If your total income for current financial year would be more than 1,60,000, only then, you have to file a tax return. If not, forget it and do not worry.

If it will be more than Rs. 1.60 lakhs during 2009=2010, then approach your employer and ask him to give you a certificate of deduction.

Based on that and after verifying with TIN-NSDL, you can file your returns. If still facing problem, get back to me.

Very best wishes.

Dear Mavi,

If your income from all sources taken together is less than Rs. 1,60,000, there is no need to file a tax return.

You say you have not got form 16. You also say tin-nsdl . com website shows no credits against your PAN and name.

In such a case, what will you do by going to Income Tax Office?

If indeed Tax at source has been deducted from you and your employer is not showing it in his records, then, you can rightly complain to the ITO stating that in spite of TDS being made, your employer is neither issuing form 16 in your name nor (appears to) deposit the deducted tax in government accounts.

You give a copy of this letter to your employer also so that he will be aware of the steps taken by you.
