No when was the common man was the target when policy documents such as railway budget/annual gen.budget are announced. PC is committed to bring CAD to a manageable levels. His team Mr.raghuram was on record is "tough & achievable".

But in an election year PC is torn between the Populism and pragmatism. Hope he does the latter and stick to the gun come what may. After all it is not about Congress and Rahul becoming a head at the helm of affairs.

Increase in fare before budget and indirect increase on true passengers has led to disappointment.

No..it is nt to be called as common man`s budget at all..It is budget for those who have money in their pockets...Why Railway Dept cannot work on on their inefficienties rather than always giving reasons like inflation and all other factors for fare hikes..

As far as the rail income is concerned,we all are aware of the fact that the railway dept is going though hardship,so it was expected that they have increase the prices of tickets but perhaps i feel Mr. Pawan Kr. Bansal failed to meet the demands of the states like UP,ORISSA,WB,etc, etc :Subhankar

passenger and freight fares have been increased ...... railway has not exercised austerity measures to save money ...... all plans are politically motivated in regional pockets
